There are always lots of buzzwords thrown around when it comes to skincare, but let's take a deep dive into the active ingredients and what each contributes to make this moisturizer a must have.
Key ingredient: Squalane
One of the best hydrating ingredients out there is squalane. It is an emollient, meaning it will form a barrier around the skin, locking in moisture. It also increases the permeability of the skin, so the other active ingredients in this moisturizer will stay active on the skin for longer. It is naturally derived, and is non-irritating and non-comedogenic. This means it is good for all skin types, including sensitive skin and acne-prone skin.
Key ingredient: Vitamin E
Vitamin E (tocopherol) is a powerful antioxidant. It scavenges free radicals, preventing damage from environmental toxins or other stresses. This leaves the skin looking more youthful, but also being physically healthier. Its fat-soluble nature pairs perfectly with squalane, which is also lipophilic. On top of being an antioxidant, Vitamin E is also amazing for hydration. It acts as both a humectant and an emollient. Humectants draw water into the skin, and emollients trap water on the skin.
Key ingredient: Niacinamide
Strengthening the skin's natural lipid barrier, niacinamide creates healthy glowing skin. It does this by regulating the natural synthesis of cholesterols, fatty acids, and ceramides. The older we get, the more our body struggles to produce sebum and its components. Supplementing with exogenous niacinamide can greatly boost our skin's natural protections. Inadvertently it reduces the appearance of pores, shrinking them to their natural state. It can also help with age spots by regulating melanin production.
Key ingredient: Vitamin B5
In products it is known as pantothenol, but when applied on the face your skin quickly converts this provitamin to Vitamin B5. Vitamin B5 is both a humectant and an emollient, drawing water to the skin’s surface then trapping it there, leaving your skin looking plump and hydrated.
Key ingredient: Plant-based Glycerin
Glycerin is the best humectant - a type of moisturizing compound that works by attracting water to the top layer of your skin. It is good for all skin types, whether you have oily, dry, aging, or sensitive. It will leave you feeling hydrated and decrease the appearance of fine lines.
Key ingredient: Céla Complex
The Céla Complex is made up of six powerful Canadian botanics: Blueberry, Elderberry, Evening Primrose, Juniper Berry, Rosemary, and Lavender. The botanicals are rich in antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, and hydrating compounds, and contain growth factors which increase collagen production. These properties will help keep your skin healthy and youthful, reducing redness and blemishes.
Is this moisturizer right for me?
Jam-packed full of the best hydrating emollients and humectants, this moisturizer is good for all seasons and for all skin types. They will deeply hydrate the skin, the squalane helping the others to penetrate into the skin further. The hydrating ingredients will also reduce the appearance of fine lines. The moisturizer's soothing and non-irritating ingredients make this product perfect for all skin types, and its non-comedogenic properties mean it won’t cause acne. In fact, many ingredients have anti-microbial properties, which will prevent the formation of any blemishes. Thanks to Vitamin E and the antioxidants in the Céla complex, it will prevent the formation of wrinkles and damage from the sun and the environment. All the while it is helping restore the skin’s natural lipid barrier and regulate sebum protection.
How to use the Céla Essential Face Moisturizer
Use this moisturizer day and night after cleansing the skin. Leave the skin damp before adding moisturizer to best make use of the humectant and emollient properties. It is best to apply serums underneath the moisturizer, and heavier products like eye creams or face oils over the moisturizer.
